Lassen Volcanic National Park was really neat. We hiked Bumpass Hell which gave us panoramic views of Lassen Peak and the surrounding volcanoes and then took us down into a thermally active area with boiling pots and fumaroles. It was like a mini-Yellowstone. There was snow on a lot of the trail which is always fun!
After driving through the rest of the park, we headed down into the valley and drove through miles of nut and fruit farms to Fairfield. My Uncle Nigel lives in Fairfield with Aunt Linda and Cousin Kaitlin. We just saw them at the reunion, so it was nice to see them again so soon! The kids were also excited to play with Kaitlin (11 yo) again. Even Little Dog had a playmate this time, Justice. We all showered, washed our clothes and enjoyed their air conditioned home! We also got take out Chinese food!!
The next day, we drove into San Francisco to see one of Steve's high school hooligans, Jason Stevens. Uncle Nigel was so kind to dogsit Rex for the day, so we had free reign to explore without him. We first drove over the bay bridge and through the city on the hill past multi-million dollar homes (like 38.5 million!) to Jason's house right off Lombard, a couple blocks off the bay. After catching up, we walked to the Golden Gate Bridge stopping for an awesome lunch on the way. We walked about 6 miles round trip and learned all about the bridge! It is quite the tourist spot! It was very windy but sunny, so it was a nice San Franciscan stroll. We then visited with Jason's wife and baby girl when we got back to his place and ate out again...pizza! It's always hard to say good-bye to such good friends :(
Our sleepy drive back to Fairfield was so beautiful over the Golden Gate Bridge and around the bay back to Fairfield. We crashed hard and woke up to say another round of good-byes to Nigel, Linda, Kaitlin & Justice. Little Dog was especially sad, because he had adopted them while we were away.
On the road again to Kings Canyon & Sequoia National Park!!
