Camping in Kerrville

We spent three days camping at Quiet Valley Ranch. This is the place that the Kerrville Folk Festival is held every year. Stephen had attended a Natural Building Colloquium there last year where they erected 4 different structures. They have been organizing "work weekends" to complete the projects before the festival in June. Stephen really wanted to "get away," so we decided to help out this past weekend. It's a great set-up, because we get to camp for free & they feed us 3x day. The kids love it out there so much that Sam wanted to have his next birthday party there :-) He really feels comfortable & confident running around exploring. (They especially like to run to the kitchen when the dinner bell is rung.) They made a new friend this weekend, Robin, who also ran around with them exploring.
Entrance to the festival grounds...front wall is made of cob.

Stephen & I helped out with the straw bale building. We made cob for the baseboards, applied cob to the baseboards, mixed up some plaster for the walls, plastered the walls, mixed up a finishing mix for the floors, and did other odd jobs. Stephen had the pleasure of "harvesting" rocks. He also made beautiful cedar trim for the interior windows (I forgot to take a picture of them).

We also got to hang out with lots of interesting people & relax in the beautiful hill country.

My parents met us out there on Saturday. They came out on their Harley...Lucy, the dog
princess, & all! My dad fashioned one of the side saddles into a cooler with sheet insulation & a drain hole for the melted ice in the bottom. They are preparing for their trip to Branson, Missouri where they will be traveling by Harley & tent camping on the way. Gotta love it!
