A Gecko Riding a Bike on a Desk!

Well...there's not really a gecko riding a bike on a desk. There is a gecko. There is a bike. There is a desk...

The desk...Stephen has been working hard on the "yellow desk." He meticulously stripped it of the 1970's yellow paint and original finish. In order to do this, he had to disassemble the cubby and carefully glue it all back together. I went to bed last night with him polishing the brass hinges, pulls, etc. A little while later, he excitedly came upstairs with the locking mechanism. It had five dates imprinted on it ranging from 1837-1887! I can't wait to see the finished product. He has done such a great job on it-his great grandparents would be proud!

The gecko...Sam has expanded his reptile zoo to include a leopard gecko. Her name is Jennaka Forest Hope. We call her Jenna. She eats baby crickets and meal worms.

The bike...Maya learned to ride her bike without training wheels! Stephen worked with her a few times, she fell a lot (including running into a parked car), she kept trying & now Stephen wants to enter her into a BMX race. She is soooo proud of herself! We are practicing riding on the sidewalk, so she can ride to the pool. Then she wants practice going to the Cimato's house (3 miles). She is really fast and is also practicing riding without hands! I think I have a new riding partner :-)

  1. But I thought the Antiques Roadshow people say to NEVER refinish those antiques!! It is a lovely desk, though.

  2. I think they would also say not to paint it 70's yellow either :-)

  3. OMG, Owen would so love to have you as a parent. He wants a leopard gecko soooooooo badly, but he has to be satisfied with red-bellied toads, which we have. I will show them on the blog someday if I can snap a photo.

The desk needed refinishing. What were people thinking when we were young????
