Road Trip 2006 Chapter 3- Grand Canyon

Before going to the Grand Canyon, we drove through Flagstaff. I was born in Flagstaff and haven't ever been back. We drove to Kachina Village where we lived. It was very cool :-)


Then, before reaching the Grand Canyon there was a geocache right off the road. It was called Red Mountain Revenge & took us on a very cool 3 mile hike. This was one of my highlights of the entire trip. Once we finally found the cache, Samuel scored by exchanging a toy for a pocket knife!

THE GRAND CANYON

We spent 2 days at the Grand Canyon. Stephen wanted the kids to "find" the canyon on their own, so we hiked up to it & watched them see it for the first time. Maya looked up from running around on the trail and said, "WOW!" We asked Samuel what he thought, and he said, "It sure is grand!" We spent our days hiking all over & listening to a few presentations. It was really cool and I look forward to going back when the kids are older and hiking into the canyon. Also, the kids became junior rangers by filling out a workbook and then being sworn in. So cute!
One of the most beautiful sights to see-The Grand Canyon at sunset. Well, the ONLY cloud in the sky was huge & covered our sunset :-( Somehow it was still very beautiful.

Sam let Maya borrow one of his knives (he is now an avid knife collector) to learn to whittle.

I got up for sunrise on our last morning there. It was very refreshing and peaceful.

The park has free shuttles that take you to different points at the canyon.
