Road Trip 2006 Chapter 2

I wake up the next morning to Samuel saying, "Mommy, Mommy, wake up! You gotta come see this!!" Well...Valley of the Fires State Park is much more impressive in the daylight! Just over a ridge behind our camper is a massive valley of lava beds.

Stephen then took the kids on a little hike through the valley & they came across a rattlesnake!

"New Mexico IS a land of enchantment!"-Stephen

We then headed to Albuquerque & went to the Sandia Mountains. We rode the world's longest single cable tram to the top of the mountain. It was very cool.

We also saw where a meteorite landed in Arizona. There was a huge storm coming through, so we also got a fabulous lightening storm.

We ended up camping at the Homolovi Ruins State Park in Arizona. We arrived after dark & after setting up the camper we had to go on a mosquito rampage. We had about 100 mosquitoes to kill at this site. Stephen really got into it & talked all kinds of smack to his enemy mosquitoes. Needless to say, we had mosquito carnage all over the camper-yuck! Homolovi Ruins was also a very cool place. There were 4 excavated Hopi Indian sites with shards of painted pottery & worked flint EVERYWHERE! I was in heaven & wanted to grab a trowel and start digging :-)

Off to the Grand Canyon....

"It's taking too long to get to California."-Maya

**Stephen got 1st place on the Galaga table top game at the Pizza Hut in Gallup, AZ--He's my hero!!

**Samuel expressed lots of concern about camping on the edge of the Grand Canyon :-)
